This was my first time making a trip to Michigan to ride. I’d heard great things about Red Bud and was really excited to see it for myself! It is what it’s hyped up to be. The facility is huge. Fans are EVERYWHERE! They get so into the racing and everything for the whole weekend, it’s awesome.

I’ve never seen anything like it! The track really shaped up nice as practices went on. By the end of our second practice, I had qualified 9th fastest and was starting to get the hang of the track…

My start in the first moto was pretty ugly. I knew I needed to get on it if I wanted to salvage a decent position. Things were going ok until a little past the half way point, when I was moving in on Alexah Pearson. I felt something on the inside of my left knee and glanced down and saw something long and silver fly out. I figured I’d just keep going and if the bike started acting weird I’d worry about it then… Well when I sat down in the next corner my butt jolted back and the front lip of my seat flapped up. Something was not right so I pulled into the mechanics area and my mechanic discovered that my sub-frame bolt had totally fallen out, no bueno. Moto one definitely did not go as planned.

Finding another sub-frame bolt was our next task. We found out pretty quickly that it was going to be tougher then it sounded. I only had one bike with me and the ‘10 and ‘09 Yamahas do not have the same sub-frame bolt. I’m racing an ‘09 and all the teams at Red Bud only had parts for ‘10s. Luckily one of the very few people I knew in Michigan, Brandon Boyce, happened to have an extra sub-frame bolt in his truck that he gave me. Then we had more help from awesome friends from Idaho. They’d been helping my dad and I out the whole weekend and pretty much lent me their mechanic, Elliott haha. He got my bike back in business for the second moto which was a huge help!

I’d like to tell you that second moto was much better but unfortunately that isn’t the case. I struggled on the start and had to work my way through the pack once again. The track was super gnarly for our second moto and I was handling it well. There was a couple laps left to go in the moto and I had just gotten by Sarah Whitmore and Alexah Pearson when the tip of my foot got caught on a rut. I was on a straight away and I wasn’t even out of control with my legs flailing or anything. A deep rut just snagged my boot tip and my foot got bent/smashed backwards. When it first happened I was in serious pain. I couldn’t put pressure on it and shifting was super difficult. Thankfully it was just a good stinger, nothing some ice and Advil couldn’t fix. Although the second moto was down the tubes as well.

I believe I wound up 25, 16 with 20th overall of for the day. That left me 11th overall in the points. Red Bud is a great place but I was extremely disappointed with how the weekend went. I didn’t perform well and I’m definitely going to do everything I can for Milleville go much differently.
