The 318 Mopar V8, also known as the 318 Poly head, 5.2L, and 5.2 Magnum has been around since 1957. The 318 is a dependable, small, light and efficient engine package. A 318 can be built to do everything from power a street work truck to being an all out drag, oval track or road racing engine. Many people tend to overlook the 318 as a high performance engine, which is a shame as it offers many benefits, and the core engines are easy to come by and relatively inexpensive.
As originally produced, one thing that the 318 lacks is torque. One of the best ways to dramatically improve torque, horsepower and overall performance of a 318 is to install a stroker crank. A stroker crankshaft really brings the 318 to life as it greatly increases torque and power. Depending on which stroke crank and final bore size you choose to use, you can build 318 stroker motors using these cranks of 370 cubic inches to over 396 cubic inches.
The 318 crank models listed on this page can be used in the old style "A" engine 318 poly head engines, the "LA" series 318 and the 5.2L Magnum engines. So all model 318 engines from 1957 thru 2003 can be built into stroker engines based around these cranks. The rear crank flange will require that very early poly head engines change to the later style transmission for the rear crank flange to properly mate to the trans, or modifications will have to be made. Most 1963 and later transmissions work with these crankshafts with no special changes or modifications required.
